Nissan Motors Agree To Build Auto-Mobile Industry In Nigeria

Auto giant, Nissan and West African conglomerate, Stallion Group, have announced their intention to jointly launch a vehicle assembly in Nigeria.
The announcement is sequel to the federal government’s new automobile industrial policy designed to encourage development of the auto industry in Nigeria. The agreement by the two organizations would see Nissan become the first major international manufacturer to launch vehicle assembly in the country following the new legislation.
The parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which would result in Stallion, already Nissan’s exclusive distributor in Nigeria, increasing capacity at its existing plant, VON Automobile Limited in Lagos.
Stallion, which currently produces commercial vehicles at the facility, has an annual capacity plant which would be expanded to 45,000 units to assemble a range of cars, light duty trucks, pick-ups and vans. However, the full details of the product line up would be confirmed at a later date.
It is however anticipated the first product to be introduced will be the iconic Nissan Patrol SUV in the spring of 2014.
