Niger Closes 100 Private Schools

As part of efforts to improve the standard of education in the state, the Niger Government has closed 100 private schools because of poor standards. Commissioner for Education in the state, Danladi Abdulhameed, announced the closure during an interactive session with newsmen in Minna yesterday.
“There is no room for any private school that failed to meet the standard set by government.
“What we are trying to do is to standardise the quality of education. We will make sure that they operate within the standard set by the government,’’ the commissioner said.
He said 500 private schools were registered in the state and that the committee set up to monitor their activities was working hard to regulate their operations.
Abdulhameed said the state government had established Teachers’ Registration Scheme and End Well Scheme to ensure quality teaching and standards in public and private schools.
“Education in the state is being improved due to the quality of teachers. We will not allow anyone to derail us from this noble objective,’’ he said.
