13 perish in accident on Onitsha–Owerri Expressway

No fewer than 13 persons were confirmed dead and 15 others critically injured in a multiple auto crash that occurred at Ihiala on the Onitsha–Owerri Expressway in Anambra state.
According to the Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Hyginus Omeje, the accident occurred when an articulated vehicle coming from Owerri lost control and ran into three vehicles waiting for another articulated vehicle, making a U- turn opposite the police station at Ihiala.
Omeje stated that two of the affected vehicles were fully loaded passenger buses belonging to the Rivers Transport Company and the other vehicle was a Honda saloon car.
He said 13 dead bodies were recovered from the badly damaged vehicles on the spot, while 15 others were taken to hospitals for treatment.
