A 30-year-old son of a traditional ruler of Ezeakoli
village in Ideato area of Imo State, yesterday, gave a startling revelation of
how he used to steal Camry cars from where they are parked, with the aid of a
master key, selling same to ready buyers at give away prices.
The suspect identified as Prince Onyeka, disclosed
that the mater key could open any Toyota Camry car manufactured between 1998
and year 2000.
Prince, who was deported from Taiwan last year over
an undisclosed offense was paraded alongside other robbery suspects said to
have been terrorizing Lagos, at the State Criminal Investigation Department,
Yaba by the command spokesperson, Ngozi Braide.
During interrogation, the suspect said he ran a
one-man squad, adding that the master key was purchased from Benin Republic and
could even open cars with security gadgets programmed in Nigeria.
But according to Braide, the bubble burst after
Prince was arrested in Surulere area of the state, following a tip off, adding
that during investigation, he confessed to steal at least two cars daily.
On how this was possible, the father of one, who
resides in Okota said: “I usually move the cars in the evening or at night
and I work alone. I used to operate around Surulere, Ikeja and Festac.
The suspect said: “Whenever I see a Toyota Camry
car, I would wait for a while to monitor the owner before going to open it with
the master key.
“A friend sold the idea to me after I was deported.
And I bought the master key for N127,000 from Port Novo, Benin Republic
last year.
“The key apart from unlocking cars with factory
fitted security gadgets, can open any 1998- 2000 Camry cars with alarm
system fitted in Nigeria. This is because it is censored.”
Asked how many vehicles he had succeeded in stealing
from where they were parked since he started, he replied. “So far, I have moved about
seven cars.
“Anytime I move them, I would call one Emeka who
would get a buyer. I cannot say how much I have made because I was saving the
money to travel back to any of the Asian countries. Besides, many people are
also owing me”, said Prince
After his arrest, Braide said the police recovered
two Toyota Camry cars which were at the verge of being sold, adding that he
would be charged to court soon.
